Student team succeeds in the prestigious INSPIRELI AWARDS competition with its design for the renovation of the Port of Beirut
This year’s three graduates of the Master’s programme in Architecture and Civil Engineering Ing. arch. Růžena Mašková, Ing. arch. Jakub Tomašík and Ing. arch. Adam Rössler in the final two semesters of their studies participated in the international competition INSPIRELI AWARDS on the design of Beirut, Lebanon. The aim of this special competition category was to design a new look for the port and the coastal part of the city destroyed 2 years ago by a massive explosion. This student team decided to solve their design with elevated roads and designed complexes of residential and public buildings on the open areas. At the same time, they wanted to make efficient use of the area with respect to its built-up area, while connecting the current part of the city with the new one. The students also had to cope with the fact that the coastline is lower than the city.
In a competition of 249 projects from 43 countries, the representatives of the Faculty of Civil Engineering won first place in the INSPIRELI AWARDS competition in the Urbanism category and second place in the INSPIRELI BEIRUT PORT RENEWAL COMPETITION. The winning designs were offered free of charge to the City of Beirut to help rebuild the destroyed port.
