The more than 100-year-old railway bridge on the line Pňovany – Bezdružice was reconstructed at the turn of 2018 and 2019. During the reconstruction, three main steel truss spans of the old structure had to be replaced with new ones. The authors used a very atypical method for the reconstruction – they rotated the bridge structure around its longitudinal axis by means of so-called rotators. This was the first such implementation on this scale in the world.
Together with other experts from SŽDC, MCE Slaný s. r. o., SMP CZ a. s, TOP CON SERVIS s.r.o. and others, the project was also carried out by a team led by Assoc. prof. Jakub Dolejš from the Department of Steel and Timber Structures, Faculty of Civil Engineering, CTU. Together with his PhD student Vojtěch Drábek, they will tell us in the next episode of “Srdcem stavaři” why they chose such an unusual method of repair and what they had to be careful about.
The structure has received several national and international awards.
